*Slowly riding back to Tesso from Fas, the fortress of the Kings Guard in Poitain*
It was a hollow victory last time I was in Tesso...and I had missed most of the combat with the Order last there in the city. The reports were a small contingent of the Blade against one of our larger patrols which had been in the area on our rounds.
The patrol areas are far too large for the number of guardsmen we have. Our poor horses have their shoes worn down quicker than we can mine the ore it seems sometimes.
With supply lines frequently cut from brigands and bandits and all other assortment of trash, all sides must resort to staying mobile. The holding of any one place is for very limited durations for us due to not wanting to tax the local supplies to the point where they suffer. We can only be there long enough to restore the peace and lend what aid possible before having to resupply ourselves. Its seems the Order is not immune to this fact as well...even if they were to tax the local supplies to the point of exhaustion there would not be enough for their numbers even for a few days out of Tesso.
*Seeing smoke and hearing the sounds of combat from Tesso, Auorix dismounts and approaches the town through concealed routes*
"The guard is not due back this way for at least half a day...what could be going on now"
*Finding a perch from which to see the center of the town Auorix squints to determine the banners and colors he is seeing on the combatants*
"The Order has returned it appears...but who do they fight? It looks as if there are three companies down there! I need to spend more time in the library of Fas...those other two colors and banners are unfamiliar to me."
*Suddenly he notices the town milita positions and that patrol routes have been altered*
"Hmm, they have restructured the Tessians."
I assume they have removed any that did not claim fealty as well. I pray to Mitra none of the fools were too proud and just agreed to whatever they wanted them to. These were men with families and not much more than famers.
"The order fights them both I think. Make to many enemies and you will never sleep my friends."
No wait...one of the groups is not fighting the Order now they fight the other large group. Enemy of our enemy and all that I suppose. I will relay this to the Commander when they arrive.
Time to head to Mularks farm up the hill and find out what he knows about Lord Amunsol's men.
